Admission
ADMISSIONS IS NOW CLOSED FOR 2019. Please fill out an admission request and you will be on our waiting list until the Admission Review Committee returns in January 2020. Hospice Heart is giving their volunteers and fosters a break during the holidays from events and admission intake as of 12/23/2019.
The first step for a cat or dog to be admitted to Hospice Hearts is for the pet to visit his or her veterinarian for a general physical exam and to assess if healthy enough for rescue placement with us.
Decision on admission typically occurs two to four weeks after submission of an admission form and current vet records (including dental records). Families are strongly encouraged to explore temporary arrangements (e.g., boarding at a veterinary clinic) until time of admission.
Many animals are old, frail, or ill, and a change in environment may not be in the pet's best interest. Some pets seeking admission to our program are so fragile that changing environments does more harm than good.
An honest discussion with a veterinarian about the most appropriate intervention based on health status - which may include putting the pet to sleep - is extremely important.
Once the cat or dog is medically cleared for rescue placement, you should complete an admission form detailing the pet's personality and medical history. This helps us place the pet in the most appropriate foster home.
Hospice Hearts is an all-volunteer, foster-based animal rescue in Central Illinois serving senior and special need cats and dogs whose owners are no longer able to care for them due to owner terminal illness, nursing home admission, or death.
We are a 501(c)3 organization and licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
PLEASE NOTE: The review of your application will not take place until we receive recent vet records. Once received, it could take up to 2 weeks before a decision is made.
